On the occasion of the 40th Rector’s Cup, The University of Kragujevac hosted the traditional student sports competition, which once again brought together a large number of students from the University members.
The 40th Rector’s Cup of the University of Kragujevac
As part of the preparations for the 40th Rector’s Cup, the draw for the competition was held on May 21, 2026, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Rectorate of the University of Kragujevac. The student representatives of the member faculties attended the event, while Nenad Tanasijević, President of the University Sports Association of Kragujevac, introduced the participants to the rules and regulations of the competition, including the scoring system used to determine the overall winner.
The Rector’s Cup program began with a ceremonial parade of participants, starting from the square in front of the City Market and proceeding through the city streets to Đački Trg, where the official opening ceremony was held in front of the First Grammar School in Kragujevac.
The attendees were first addressed by Vladimir Ranković, Rector of the University of Kragujevac, who welcomed all participants and emphasized the importance of such gatherings for fostering connections among young people, promoting the spirit of sportsmanship, and strengthening the sense of community.
He was followed by Nenad Tanasijević, Head of the Education Center of Kragujevac, and Mihajlo Kočović, President of the Student Parliament at the University of Kragujevac, who also addressed the audience.
Competitions were held throughout the day at several sports venues across the city of Kragujevac in the following disciplines: football, volleyball, basketball, handball, shooting, chess, and table tennis.
The closing ceremony and the presentation of trophies to the most successful teams and individuals were held at the Second Kragujevac Grammar School. The trophies were awarded by Nenad Tanasijević and Vladimir Ranković.
On this occasion, congratulations were extended to all participants for their sportsmanship, outstanding commitment, and contribution to the successful realization of the event, which once again confirmed the importance of sport in connecting students and strengthening friendships among young people.
Following the official closing of the Rector’s Cup, the participants and guests were invited to attend the concert “A Gift from the University”, organized to mark a major milestone — the 50th anniversary of the University of Kragujevac.
