Organized by the Center for Green Economy of the University of Kragujevac, Circular Economy Day was held at the University of Kragujevac on May 27, 2026.
The University of Kragujevac Hosted Circular Economy Day
The event, dedicated to sustainable development, green transition, and ideas that can contribute to a more environmentally responsible society, brought together members of the academic community, students, and representatives of the business sector.
On behalf of the University management, the attendees were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Dejana Zlatanović, Vice-Rector for Education and Student Affairs at the University of Kragujevac. On behalf of the Center for Green Economy, the welcome address was delivered by Associate Professor Dejan Jovanović, Head of the Center for Green Economy and Director of the Circular Economy Consultant study program.
As part of the program, four student projects, selected through the Green Vision 2026 competition for the best solution in the field of green transition, were presented. The following teams showcased their innovative and environmentally sustainable proposals that contribute to the development of the green economy: Green Vision of Youth; Get changed – Knowledge is Shared, Clothes Circulate; The Green Refrigerator of Hope; EcoSpark – The Spark That Drives Change.
The three jury members, Sanida Klarić (BIO IDEA, Belgrade), Ljubina Kalinić (Data Cloud Technology, Kragujevac), and Marija Majstorović (Unipromet, Čačak), selected the winning project. The first prize, along with the opportunity to implement the proposed idea, was awarded to the Green Refrigerator of Hope team from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Čačak. The Center for Green Economy awarded certificates to all participants, while the winning team received RSD 50,000 support for project implementation.
In the second half of the program, certificates were awarded to the second generation of the short study program Circular Economy Consultant, which has been conducted at the University of Kragujevac since 2024. By May of this year, 21 participants from the second generation had completed the program successfully. So far, 44 candidates have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the field of circular economy.
On behalf of the participants, Strahinja Čukić addressed the audience, highlighting the quality of the program and the knowledge gained, as well as the importance of such educational initiatives for sustainable development in Serbia.
The musical segment of the program included performances by Tomislav Blažina, the second-year tambura student, and Lenka Simonović, the first-year accordion student, both studying in the class of Professor Irina Vasović, who were accompanied by Nevena Gligorić.
Among the attendees were Johanna Vollmeyer and Patrick Zill, representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). With their support, the Center for Green Economy was established at the University of Kragujevac in April 2023.
